Numbers do not tell the whole story, but they tell this much: as reported by Injini in April 2022, The Teacher’s Village had grown past 800 users.
What 800 educators means here
We want to be careful with this figure. It was reported by Injini at the time, and we treat it that way: a milestone noted by an independent organisation that followed African edtech closely, not a number we present as today’s count. Even so, 800-plus educators is worth pausing on. These are teachers who chose to spend their scarce professional time inside a community built for them.
Many work in places where professional support is thin. A rural classroom can leave an educator professionally alone: colleagues are far away, materials are scattered, and training opportunities arrive rarely, if at all. The Teacher’s Village was built for exactly that gap.
What the community offers
- Educational materials teachers can take straight into Zambian classrooms.
- Support for professional growth, because a teacher’s development should not end with initial training.
- Remote tutoring, connecting learners and teachers beyond the physical school.
- All of it running on mobile, off-grid and web technologies, so the platform works on the phone in a teacher’s pocket and on a network that comes and goes.
That last point matters more than it sounds. A platform for Zambian teachers has to work in Zambian conditions, or it works for nobody.
Momentum, and where it is heading
The growth to 800-plus users arrived in the same season as another piece of recognition: Injini selected The Teacher’s Village among 10 African startups for its Virtual EdTech Bootcamp, where the platform won a R5,000 cash prize at the Injini Virtual Pitch Event. Milestone and recognition, together.
From here, the direction is simple: more materials, more structured opportunities for professional growth, and a stronger community where a teacher in a rural district and a teacher in Lusaka can swap the same ideas. The community keeps teaching us what educators actually need, and the roadmap follows their lead. A village grows one household at a time. So does this one.
